Creepiest Abandoned Theme Parks You DON’T Want To Visit

The theme park – a magical place… or is it?
Ruined by desertion, dilapidation and even death, here are the creepiest theme parks you don’t want to visit.
How does Nara Dreamland compare to Disneyland?
When it comes to abandoned theme parks, the idea of an eerie atmosphere and a spooky environment may come to mind. While some people enjoy visiting such places as a form of adventure, others prefer to steer clear of them. In this article, we will take a look at some of the creepiest abandoned theme parks that you definitely would not want to visit.
1. Pripyat Amusement Park, Ukraine
The Pripyat Amusement Park, located in Chernobyl’s exclusion zone, was closed down after the Chernobyl disaster in April 1986. The park was scheduled to be opened for visitors on May 1st, just a few days after the meltdown. The tragedy got the better of the park, the Ferris wheel standing as the symbol of the park, and it has become a haunting reminder of the disaster. The desolation of the park is palpable, making it a chilling site to behold.
2. Nara Dreamland, Japan
Nara Dreamland was opened in 1961 and was set up with the blueprint of Disneyland. Unfortunately, due to the popularity of the latter, the former had to close in the year of 2006 after suffering from low attendance. Though the place was not that old, it still gives a sense of abandonment and despair. The park’s rusting roller coasters, the barren park, and empty water rides have long been stripped of their operation, leaving a ghost-like environment that could send chills down your spine.
3. Okpo Land, South Korea
Okpo land was once one of South Korea’s most loved amusement parks, however, it was shut down in the early ‘90s as a result of several accidents during operation, including fatal ones. The park was not dismantled completely, and its remains still stand as a macabre object. It has since then become a haven for graffiti artists and urban explorers, but even the bravest dare to explore the place at night.
4. Six Flags Jazzland, New Orleans
Located in New Orleans, Six Flags Jazzland was closed in 2005, shortly after Hurricane Katrina. The park was badly damaged by the natural disaster, which resulted in the apocalyptic theme for the place. The park is still abandoned and overgrown after close to two decades, turning it into a playground for vandals and abandonment enthusiasts.
In conclusion, abandoned theme parks can many times give an unsettling feeling, and naturally so, given their deserted and eerie nature. These are places that have been left behind by time and man, and serve as extraordinary reminders of the events that forced them to close down. It is not every person’s cup of tea to visit these parks, and there are many good reasons why you should not pack your bags to visit one.
